Newton

Update on bike campaign Monday

The city’s Bicycle Advisory Committee will sponsor the second annual Newton Bike Update on Monday, from 6 to 7 p.m., at the War Memorial Auditorium in City Hall. The League of American Bicyclists has just given Newton a bronze award for its efforts to become a Bicycle Friendly Community — up from an honorable mention last year. Newton bicycle coordinator Lois Levin will be joined at the update by Mayor Setti Warren, city transportation director Bill Paille, and members of the Board of Aldermen, the Police Department, and the Bicycle Advisory Committee. They will explain the bronze award, highlight Newton’s new bicycle lanes, show where the next lanes will go, and discuss bicycling education, safety, and enforcement. For details, contact Levin at 617-527-1237.
