Seminar focuses on body image

There is still space available for a free seminar that examines how the media distorts girls’ self-esteem, body image, and perceptions about relationships, with the four-day session beginning Thursday. Organized by Needham Youth Services, the “Extreme Looks’’ workshop will incorporate activities and discussions, and teach participants safe ways to exercise and stay healthy, in an effort to address the needs of the mind, body, and spirit. Participants in the seminar will also be eligible for summer memberships at the Needham YMCA. The program, which is open to girls in sixth, seventh, or eighth grades, will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, July 1, and July 2. For more information, visit www.needhamma.gov/youth/extremelooks, or contact Katy Colthart at 781-455-7500, ext. 264, or kcolthart@needhamma.gov.
