Town wraps up McGrath purchase

The town’s purchase of the property at 449 Barrett’s Mill Road from the estate of Patrick McGrath has been completed. Town Meeting in the spring authorized the town to buy the 1.9-acre parcel, which includes a farmhouse, barn, greenhouse and farm stand, and is surrounded by nearly 40 acres of publicly owned land. Affordable-housing advocates are raising money to renovate the farmhouse into two residential units that will be made available to a farmer and farm worker for rent at below-market rates. Officials hope to have the farm and several acres ready to lease to a local farmer in time for next year’s growing season.
