Police offer emergency response training

The Police Department is offering a training program in an effort to certify new members for the town’s Community Emergency Response Team. The 10-week program includes training in CPR, basic fire suppression, directing traffic, personal emergency preparedness, and other skills. Training sessions will be offered Mondays from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 16, and a graduation ceremony will be held Dec. 9. Participants must attend a minimum of eight training classes to receive certification. Police officials are hoping to add 25 members to the town’s emergency response team, which assists public safety and medical workers during major events, such as terrorist attacks or natural disasters. For more information or to request an application, call Officer Casey Hatchett or Detective Mike Raskin at 617-730-2734, or e-mail chatchett@brooklinema.gov; the completed applications should be returned by Sept. 6.
