Town officials are offering entries to next spring’s Boston Marathon to qualified individuals who can raise at least $4,000 for charities, and are also seeking local nonprofits wishing to be among the beneficiaries of the fund-raising effort. The town receives several of the coveted running permits from the Boston Athletic Association, the race’s organizer. The BAA doles out the entries to communities along the 26.2-mile route between Hopkinton and Boston as a token of gratitude for their cooperation and coordination. Runners who obtain one of Wellesley’s race numbers will have to pay the $325 Marathon entry fee as well as commit to raising $4,000. Officials said Wellesley residents aiding local charities, and charitable organizations benefiting local residents will be given preference. Applications can be found at www.wellesleyma.gov, and must be returned to the Board of Selectmen by Nov. 1. The town will notify recipients by Nov. 15; next year’s race will be held on April 21. For more information, call the selectmen’s office at 781-431-1019, ext. 2207.
