The Milford Board of Health is holding a household hazardous waste collection day for town residents only on Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Milford Highway Department on Front Street. The collection will be held rain or shine. Garage items such as fuels, antifreeze, engine degreaser, brake fluid, car wax and polishes, driveway sealer, roofing tar, paint strippers and thinners, and swimming pool chemicals will be collected. In addition, solvents, chemistry sets, furniture and floor polish, cement and glue, fiberglass resins, spot remover, wood preservatives and lighter fluid will also be accepted. There are several item types that will not be accepted, however, including asbestos, smoke detectors, commercial or industrial waste, radioactive waste, biological waste, ammunition, fireworks and explosives, and fire extinguishers. There is no charge for collection, but a proof of Milford residency is required with a drivers license or current utility bill. More information is available by calling the Board of Health office at 508-634-2315.
