The town of Lexington is accepting applications for a soon-to-be-vacant seat on the Board of Assessors, which deals with property valuation and assessor’s office policy. Board member William Jackson is leaving in late 2013, said Cathy Severance, office manager in the town manager’s office. Severance said people interested in serving on the board should fill out and send an application to the town manager’s office at 1625 Massachusetts Ave. Town Manager Carl Valente will be responsible for appointing the new board member. Severance said the search will end when the town finds a suitable candidate. To qualify, applicants must be appraisers, commercial brokers, real estate agents, builders, or architects. The Board of Assessors hears appeals from taxpayers, works on property valuation, presents data that the selectmen use in the annual tax classification, approves tax exemptions, and reviews requests for abatements, according to Valente and to the assessor’s office website. Interested applicants can contact the town manager’s office either by visiting it at 1625 Massachusetts Ave. or calling 781-862-0500, ext. 275, to request an application.
