Learn about local ‘solarize’ effort

Solarize Needham will host an event Wednesday to introduce residents and businesses interested in solar power to representatives of the company hired to provide local installations under the program, and to answer any questions people may have about solar power, according to the group. The event, which will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at Town Hall, will feature representatives from Astrum Solar, which was chosen after a thorough vetting process, organizers said. Needham was among 15 communities chosen in December to take part in the next phase of the Solarize Massachusetts grant program, which is cosponsored by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center and the state’s Department of Energy Resources. The initiative provides the installation of power-generating solar panels at substantially discounted prices through bulk purchases. The Solarize Needham program will be accepting applications through June 30. For more information, visit www.solarizeneedham.org.
