Stranded Newton teens take MBTA to prom
When their limousine didn’t show up, they opted for the Green Line
The girls were dressed in their finest heels, the weather was cooperating, and the 10 couples who gathered in a friend’s backyard for pictures before Newton South High School’s junior semiformal were ready for a great night of fun and memory making.
Except the merriment hit a snag when the limousine didn’t show up at the appointed time on May 16 to drive the teenage friends to the Boston Park Plaza hotel.
“Some parents were getting ready to carpool, but the kids were having so much fun they didn’t want to split up,” said David Rosenblatt, whose son Sam was among the group.
So they trooped over to the MBTA’s Waban Station, and jumped on the first Green Line train that came along.
“Away they went, all duded up,” Rosenblatt said.
The subway line offers a direct ride to Arlington Station, conveniently located just a block away from the Park Plaza.
Chalk this one up as a victory for the much-maligned T, Rosenblatt said.
And at the end of the night, the limousine company came through and had a vehicle and driver right in place, on time, to get all the kids back to Newton safely.
