Info session set on Concord Superfund site

Representatives from the US Environmental Protection Agency and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection will hold a public information session Thursday, May 25 at 6:30 pm at Acton Town Hall. The purpose of the meeting is to update residents on the groundwater removal action at the Nuclear Metals, Inc. Superfund site in Concord. The site, also known as the Starmet Corporation site, is on a 46-acre parcel. Nuclear Metals made depleted uranium products, primarily for armor-piercing ammunition, and manufactured metal powders for medical applications, photocopiers, and specialty metal products such as the beryllium tubing used in the aerospace industry. From 1958 to 1985, waste was discharged into an unlined holding basin. Facility operations contaminated soil and ground water with hazardous chemicals.
