    Newton considers food truck ordinance

Newton officials will hold a public hearing Nov. 13 on a proposal to allow food trucks to serve customers at a commercial office park on Wells Avenue. A memo from the city’s planning department stated that allowing food trucks at the office park is a “key priority for the property owners there, and the city’s economic development program.” Under the proposal, food trucks would be allowed only on Wells Avenue, and the planning department would determine specific operating hours and locations where the trucks could operate. The proposal would also require food truck operators to obtain permits from the health and planning departments before conducting business in Newton. The hearing before the Zoning and Planning Committee and the Planning and Development Board is set for 7:45 p.m. in Newton City Hall. The measure has the support of the city’s economic development commission, as well as seven city councilors, including mayoral candidates Scott F. Lennon and Ruthanne Schwartz Fuller.
