STRINGS N BEATS Shadaj, a Lexington-based group dedicated to cultivating, nurturing and promoting Indian classical music in its most authentic form, presents “Strings N Beats,” in which three artists representing a range of Indian music and dance will introduce traditional dances, instrumental classical music on the sitar and tabla, and storytelling through body language. BEST AND BRIGHTEST Sixteen local luminaries are on the schedule at Newton Schools Foundation’s seventh annual “Newton Inspires: An Evening of Ideas and Community” on Monday, Nov. 13, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Newton South High School. Since 2011, Newton Inspires has gathered Newton residents for an evening of discussion with some of Newton’s best and brightest. This year’s program includes the Boston Globe’s Ty Burr; Dr. Alice Shaw, director of the Center for Thoracic Cancers at Massachusetts General Hospital; Nancy Schön, the artist/sculptor interviewed by Jared Bowen, WGBH executive arts editor; and Open Studio host and restaurateur David Punch speaking with food writer Andrea Pyenson. The Commonwealth Shakespeare Company welcomes actors Brooke Adams and Tony Shalhoub for a staged reading of Bertolt Brecht’s drama “Fear and Misery in the Third Reich.” The production, in a translation by Eric Bentley and directed by Steve Maler, takes place Monday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. at the Sorenson Center for the Arts, Babson College, 19 Babson College Drive, Wellesley.
