Brookline’s annual First Light celebration is set for Thursday, Nov. 30, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., bringing together local merchants and residents to ring in the winter season. Its organizers say the event, which began about 20 years ago in Washington Square when local businesses began hanging snowflakes in their storefront windows, has grown to include family-friendly performances from local musicians and artists. Close to 20 local businesses and organizations are helping to sponsor this year’s event, and many will offer giveaways, raffles, and other activities, organizers said in a prepared statement. The festival also includes a photography contest that encourages residents to capture images of the town’s landmarks and scenery. The event is organized in partnership with Brookline’s economic development division, organizers said.
