A Wellesley volunteer group is offering scholarships for local students who have been active in serving their community and need help to pay for their higher education. The Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club is offering the scholarships to town residents who are graduating high school seniors or full-time college undergraduates, the group said on its website. The organization awarded $70,000 to 30 Wellesley students last year, according to the statement, with amounts ranging from $1,000 to $4,000. The scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, financial need, and involvement in community service, according to the organization. A limited number of awards are also available to Wellesley High School seniors who live outside the town, the group said. Applicants must provide a community service statement, a school transcript, financial aid information, and a completed application form. Applications are due Feb. 1, 2018.
