Arlington police launches online community crime map

The Arlington Police Department has a new online community crime map that officials say will help prevent crime, improve public safety, and enhance community-police partnerships. The new map, www.arlingtonma.gov/crimereports, tracks and analyzes crime data, alerts Arlington residents about crimes in their neighborhood, and allows police to quickly alert the public about crimes as they occur. There is also an option to submit anonymous crime tips to the department. “This service highlights the . . . department’s unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability,’’ said Police Chief Frederick Ryan, “and together with our community partners, this tool will empower us to further prevent crime in our community.” Residents can view a map and grid with all of the crimes in their area, sign up for neighborhood watch reports that automatically e-mail a breakdown of recent crime activity, and submit anonymous tips about crimes directly to the department.
