Bedford residents turned in 26 pounds of prescription medications

The Bedford Police Department, in collaboration with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, collected 26 pounds of prescription medications during National Drug Take Back Day last month. Residents on Oct. 28 turned in their unwanted and expired medications to the department, which in turn delivered the meds to the DEA for proper disposal. Take Back Day is a free and anonymous event coordinated by the DEA and police departments. The department also has two drop boxes for prescriptions in the station lobby, into which residents can anonymously discard unwanted or potentially harmful drugs and substances, and Chief Robert Bongiorno encouraged residents to make use of them until the next Take Back Day in the spring.
