Franklin police highlight local hunting rules

The Franklin Police Department is reminding residents about local hunting restrictions in light of recent inquiries. By state law, hunters may hunt on private or public property, including state-owned land, where it is not forbidden by local statute. If a landowner or person in charge of a property notifies individuals that they they are forbidden from hunting there, they must leave or risk being subject to a trespassing complaint. Hunting, including with a bow, is forbidden on any town-owned property. In addition, no firearms can be discharged within 500 feet of any dwelling. For more information, review chapter 125, article III of the town’s bylaws with regards to firearms, or call the police department at 508-528-1212.
