Wellesley Hills-based MassBay Community College has received $100,000 from the Gladys Brooks Foundation for scholarships for high-achieving single-parent students, the biggest single endowment gift the college has ever received to support such students. Eligible students must also be in their second year at MassBay, on track to graduate with an associate’s degree, and plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to pursue a bachelor’s degree. “This gift to the college will have a lasting impact on the educational advancement for many of our current and future single-parent students,” said Mary Shia, MassBay’s vice president of Institutional Advancement and Alumni Relations and executive director of the MassBay Foundation. MassBay will be awarding at least six scholarships per year. Eligible students can begin applying this falll; scholarships will be awarded the following spring.
