First phase of Roger Williams pond work done

Phase one of an effort to restore water quality in 100 acres of ponds at Roger Williams Park is now complete. Mayor Angel Taveras was joined Tuesday by representatives from the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program and the Environmental Protection Agency to announce the end of the initial phase of pond restoration work. The $400,000 improvements include the construction of five major storm water treatment areas, removal of paved surfaces, and construction of a new walking path. More than 3,000 native plants were added to help reduce water pollution and restore eroded shorelines.
