The Providence Place mall was on lockdown Monday evening after a shooting in a parking garage, officials said.
Providence police said a 19-year-old male was shot in what they called a targeted shooting.
The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The shooting took place on the second floor of the parking garage outside a door to the Nordstrom department store.
No arrests have been made. Police say they’re reviewing security camera footage and the investigation is ongoing.
McKenna Moors, 18, who was in the Cheesecake Factory at the mall when the shooting happened about 5 p.m., told the Globe via Twitter that the restaurant was on lockdown. Moors was there celebrating her friend’s birthday party. “I was so scared,” she said.
“Providence Place is cooperating fully with the Providence police department on their investigation,” said Lindsay Kahn, spokewoman for GGP, the retail real estate company that owns Providence Place. The shopping center will remain closed for the evening.Material from the Associated Press contributed to this report. Sarah Betancourt can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
