    AURORA — A gunman fired shots at police from a second-story window before he was killed as SWAT officers stormed his home Saturday. Inside, they found the bodies of three other adults. The suspect held officers at bay for nearly six hours after neighbors reported gunfire at 3 a.m. inside the modest townhouse. The shootings occurred about 4 miles from the movie theater where 12 people were killed and dozens wounded by a gunman on July 20. (AP)


    Earthquake sparks tsunami warning

    JUNEAU — A powerful earthquake prompted a tsunami warning along hundreds of miles of Alaskan and Canadian coastline, but the alert was canceled when no damaging waves were generated. The magnitude 7.5 quake struck at midnight Friday and was centered about 60 miles west of Craig, Alaska, according to the US Geological Survey (AP)

    Man allegedly kills his grandmother

    KINGS PARK — Police said a man killed his grandmother after they argued over what TV show to watch. Clarence Newcomb, 25, was arrested Friday at the home he shared with 82-year-old Kathleen Newcomb. Suffolk County police said a man called them at 4:35 a.m. to report the woman was lying on the floor. Officers said they found her dead. No weapon was found, and medical officials have not determined how she died. (AP)
