JIM THORPE — An off-duty deputy sheriff took another off-duty officer hostage at gunpoint, then fatally shot himself, State Police said Saturday. Investigators are trying to figure out what motivated Carbon County Deputy Sheriff David Midas, and they are looking to see if there were signs of mental illness. Police said that after Midas took the other officer hostage, a struggle began and Midas shot himself in the head. He died early Saturday at a hospital. (AP)
