CADIZ, Ky. — Kentucky State Police detectives were trying to figure out Monday what led to the shooting deaths of a married couple, their adult daughter, and another man in western Kentucky over the weekend.
State Police say the man, 22-year-old Vito Y. Riservato, is suspected of shooting the others at their home in Cadiz on Sunday. Lindsey Champion, 62; his wife, Joy A. Champion, 60; and the couple's daughter, Emily K. Champion, 30, were found dead along with Riservato.
State Police Trooper Jay Thomas said police are looking into the relationship between the Champion family and Riservato, who lived about 20 miles away in Hopkinsville. Thomas says Riservato may have known the family briefly before the shooting.
Thomas said detectives wrapped up investigating at the crime scene early Monday morning, but they still have some vehicles to search and family members and acquaintances to interview. ''We're still trying to fit some pieces into the puzzle about the whole situation,'' Thomas said.
In Illinois on Monday, an Illinois man pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping and killing a Kentucky woman in southwest Ohio.
Authorities say Terry Froman, 41, killed estranged girlfriend Kim Thomas' 17-year-old son in Mayfield, Ky., and then kidnapped and killed Thomas before being arrested Sept. 12 north of Cincinnati
