Most Americans favor ground troops in ISIS fight, poll shows

A poll released Sunday said that a majority of Americans should send ground troops to Iraq and/or Syria to combat the Islamic State group.

The CNN/ORC poll, released shortly before President Obama's Oval Office speech, showed that 53 percent of Americans favored using ground troops to combat the Islamic State.

It's the first time that a majority has favored such an action in an CNN poll, the network said.

The poll also showed that 60 percent said that US military action against ISIS is going badly.

Majorities in all parties, including 52 percent of Democrats, also said that the US military response to the Islamic State hasn't been aggressive enough.
