A suspect told authorities before dying in a standoff that he was upset about Black Lives Matter as well as recent fatal police shootings of black men.

Two snipers apparently shot 11 police officers during protests in Dallas on Thursday night and five officers are dead, the city’s police chief said.

The gunfire broke out around 8:45 p.m. Thursday. Live TV video showed protesters marching along a street in downtown when the shots erupted and the crowd scattered, seeking cover.

Many captured the chaos on video posted to social media.
