Puerto Rico votes on statehood on Sunday

Territory will vote again on statehood

SAN JUAN — Puerto Rico will vote on its territorial status Sunday, choosing among statehood, independence, and the status quo. The vote may have no practical impact, because its status is determined by Congress. But Puerto Rico has voted four times on the issue, the last time in 2012, when 61 percent favored statehood. It has its own laws, but they are subject to override by the US government. (AP)
