BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A 17-year-old girl was killed and two other people were wounded Wednesday in a possibly accidental shooting at a Birmingham high school, police said.
The shooting took place at Huffman High School, part of the city school district.
One student died on the way to the hospital and another was in critical condition. A staff member who was wounded was treated at the high school.
The Birmingham schools issued a brief statement on the incident, saying: ‘‘Two students were involved in a shooting during dismissal today at Huffman High School.’’
Birmingham’s interim Police Chief Orlando Wilson said that authorities are seeking to determine whether the shooting was accidental.
