Donald Trump called Mayor Martin J. Walsh “a clown” and told Boston to “get a new mayor” during an interview with reporters in New Hampshire on Friday.
Trump’s comments came after Walsh took the ALS ice bucket challenge Friday afternoon, and tagged the Republican presidential candidate to take it as well.
When a reporter asked Trump if he would take up Walsh’s challenge, the wealthy businessman scoffed.
“Look, he’s a clown, Marty Walsh,” Trump said, in comments that were recorded by television media. “I don’t even know who he is.”
But apparently, Trump in fact had an inkling of who Boston’s mayor was, as he started on a small rant.

“This guy Marty Walsh, he spends all this time and effort and money on an Olympic bid, and then he goes out and, you know, he’s talking about ice bucket challenges — get a real mayor,” Trump said.
Walsh had a brief response on Saturday: “Go to petefrates.com and donate to ALS research.”
This isn’t the first time Trump has blasted Walsh: he took to Twitter to criticize the mayor last month over the end to Boston’s Olympic bid.
“Boston’s Mayor Walsh wasted a lot of time and money on going for the Olympics, and then he gave up,” Trump tweeted. “I don’t want him negotiating for me!”
Walsh had previously said Trump would have to apologize for comments he made about Mexicans if he ever wanted to build a hotel in Boston.
(It is also worth noting that Trump took the ice bucket challenge last summer, uploading the video to his YouTube channel).
TY to all of those who joined me today to #strikeoutALS. I now challenge @BilldeBlasio, @MassAGO & @realDonaldTrump pic.twitter.com/9vtHDU4Npd
