You may have heard of the most recent political sensation: “Deez Nuts,” a 15-year-old boy from Iowa who registered as an independent presidential candidate and found himself polling beside top candidates like Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

Now, it seems like the third-party candidate — whose real name is Brady Olson, according to media reports — is using his newfound fame to give a shoutout to Bernie Sanders, a liberal senator from Vermont running for the presidency.

“Just gonna throw this out there now. This is not for the general election. My endorsement for the Democratic nomination goes to Vermont senator Bernie Sanders,” read a post on the Facebook page “Deez Nuts for President 2016.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Olson wrote that he didn’t want to “see Clinton, Bush, or Trump in the White House, so I guess I’m just trying to put up a fight.”

When the magazine asked what he would ask Hillary Clinton given the chance, he responded: “Why can’t you be more open and friendly like Bernie?”

“Deez Nuts” also endorsed Ohio Governor John Kasich for the Republican bid on his campaign’s Facebook page.

In recent polls, the third-party candidate drew 9 percent in North Carolina, 8 percent in Minnesota, and 7 percent in Iowa, according to the New York Times.

The director of the Public Policy Polling told the Times that he added “Deez Nuts” three weeks ago because “the name makes people laugh, and it’s a long presidential election.’’

Olson told Rolling Stone that he would be willing to take the practical joke “as far as America wants to take it.”
