Following the death of Justice Antonin Scalia, here’s a look at the eight remaining Justices and who appointed them.

Chief Justice John Roberts

Nominated to the Supreme Court by President George W. Bush and began serving in 2005.

Justice Anthony Kennedy

Nominated to the Supreme Court by President Reagan and began serving in 1988.

Justice Clarence Thomas

Nominated to the Supreme Court by President George H.W. Bush and began serving in 1991.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Nominated to the Supreme Court by President Clinton and began serving in 1993.

Justice Stephen Breyer

Nominated to the Supreme Court by President Clinton and began serving in 1994.

Justice Samuel Alito, Jr.

Nominated to the Supreme Court by President George W. Bush and began serving in 2006.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor

Nominated to the Supreme Court by President Obama and began serving in 2009.
