Members of Congress stream sit-in after C-SPAN cameras turned off

House Democrats are staging a sit-in on the House floor over gun control, but C-SPAN’s cameras aren’t able to capture it.

That’s because House leadership controls the cameras that normally carry every minute of Congressional action. Since the House isn’t actually in session, the cameras were ordered turned off.

Instead, C-SPAN is airing footage streamed over social media by the members themselves.

Congressman Beto O’Rourke of Texas and Scott Peters of California are among those streaming the sit-in via Facebook and the Twitter app Periscope.
