President Trump caught everyone’s attention early Wednesday with a rather curious tweet.

One could assume that Trump was meaning to tweet about “press coverage,” but . . .

On cue, Twitter went bananas. And the #covfefe hashtag was trending worldwide.

Even Springfield-based Merriam-Webster took part in the piling on.

There’s also debate on how to pronounce covfefe.

Trump’s misspelling popped up hours before the National Spelling Bee started a few miles from the White House, in National Harbor, Md.

Trump’s tweet brought to mind late-night tweets from former US Senator Scott Brown in January 2013. The #bqhatevwr hashtag still gets some run on Twitter.

At around 6 a.m., Trump deleted the tweet and sent a replacement.

“Who can figure out the true meaning of “covfefe” ??? Enjoy!” the president wrote on Twitter.
