Representative Seth Moulton of Salem will visit Iowa in September to speak at an event that historically has been a first stop for potential Democratic presidential candidates.

Moulton will co-headline the Polk County Steak Fry of the Iowa Democratic Party along with fellow US representatives Cheri Bustos of Illinois and Tim Ryan of Ohio. Ryan, like Moulton, is said to be considering a run for president.

Traditionally, Iowa holds the first contest of the presidential primary season, followed by New Hampshire.

Matt Corridoni, a Moulton spokesman, suggested the Iowa visit was less about Moulton’s national ambitions than it was a chance to help Democrats.

“He sees this event as an opportunity to excite Democrats ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, and highlight the need for new candidates for Congress who will put service to country ahead of service to self when in Washington,” Corridoni said.

Moulton visited Iowa last year to campaign for a congressional candidate and to campaign for Hillary Clinton.

News of Moulton’s visit, which is slated for Sept. 30, was first reported by Politico.
