Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jay Gonzalez has hired well-known Democratic pollster Chris Anderson to conduct survey research for his campaign.
Anderson — whose firm, Anderson Robbins Research, works for clients such as the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts, is the Democratic pollster for Fox News, and conducted surveys for the successful 2016 Massachusetts marijuana legalization ballot question — also happens to be the pollster for Attorney General Maura T. Healey.
Yes, that same Maura Healey who many progressive advocates hope against hope will run for governor this year.
Healey has repeatedly affirmed she is running for reelection as attorney general, and her pollster signing on with Gonzalez certainly appears to confirm the Charlestown Democrat won’t be making a bid for Governor Charlie Baker’s seat.
As for Gonzalez, his senior adviser, Sydney Asbury, said of Anderson: “We’ll [be] thrilled to have him on the team.”
Also running for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination: former Newton Mayor Setti Warren and environmentalist and entrepreneur Robert K. Massie.
Baker faces competition in the GOP primary but is expected to win the Republican nomination easily.
A WBUR poll released Tuesday found 74 percent of registered voters approve of the job Baker, who took office in January 2015, is doing as governor.Joshua Miller can be reached at email@example.com.
