President Trump is back at it against NFL players, tweeting his disapproval Friday morning against the handful of demonstrations that took place during the preseason games around the country Thursday night.
Only two players were reported to have kneeled during the national anthem on Thursday evening, according to the Associated Press, but there were other demonstrations involving players raising their fists and others returning to the locker room during the ceremony.
The NFL players are at it again - taking a knee when they should be standing proudly for the National Anthem. Numerous players, from different teams, wanted to show their ?outrage? at something that most of them are unable to define. They make a fortune doing what they love......— Donald J. .....Be happy, be cool! A football game, that fans are paying soooo much money to watch and enjoy, is no place to protest. Most of that money goes to the players anyway. Find another way to protest. Stand proudly for your National Anthem or be Suspended Without Pay!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 10, 2018
Trump has told associates that he believes the anthem issue is a winning one that riles up his base.
He claimed Friday that the players were outraged against “something that most of them are unable to define,” however players have repeatedly said they are protesting disenfranchisment of black people in the United States.
Philadelphia Eagles player Malcolm Jenkins went so far as to hold up a series of signs outlining his message earlier this summer.
One of them read, “You aren’t listening.”Material from the Associated Press was used in this report.
