It might have been a historic day for Congress, but it was the kids who stole the show.
Several members of the 116th Congress showed up to the inauguration ceremonies with their young children, grandchildren, and other young relatives in tow — from Nancy Pelosi’s bevy of excited grandchildren, to Representative Eric Swalwell’s October-born infant daughter.
One particularly endearing moment came as Pelosi herself was called upon to vote — and one of her granddaughters apparently could not contain her excitement.

Pelosi also asked for her grandchildren — and any other children in the chamber — to come stand with her as she was sworn in as House speaker. A horde of youngsters gathered around Pelosi on the dais as she raised her right hand and took the oath of office.

Pelosi said: ‘‘I now call the House to order on behalf of all of America’s children.’’

Here’s a look at some of the other children who witnessed the opening session of Congress on Thursday.
