BERLIN — Queen Elizabeth II concluded her three-day state visit to Germany on Friday with a somber stop at Bergen-Belsen, the first former Nazi concentration camp she has toured.
The queen, 89, and her husband, Prince Philip, 94, met with survivors and former British soldiers who were among those who liberated the camp where teenage diarist Anne Frank and her sister Margot died 70 years ago.
The queen and Philip were led through parts of the former camp, and paused at a special marker for Frank and her sister before walking alone to a place of reflection.
During the war, Princess Elizabeth served in the women’s auxiliary, and Philip served in the Royal Navy.
