letters | Strong finish for Sox

Grandmother a fan who spans the years from 1918

My grandmother, Bessie Grad, of North Andover, has been a lifelong Red Sox fan. She was 3 years old in 1918 when the Sox won the World Series. She then lived the next 86 years without seeing them win, and she assumed, until 2004, that she never would.

She was watching Wednesday when they won, their third championship since her 88th birthday. She turns 99 soon and is showing no signs of slowing down, so the way things have been going, I expect she’ll see another three World Series titles before she hits 109 (which I fully expect).
