Hero worship fits in case of Big Papi

World Series MVP David Ortiz held a giant bottle of champagne aloft as the Red Sox celebrated their victory Wednesday night.

When the Red Sox were down three against the Yankees in the American League Championship Series in 2004, I was in bed in my apartment in Queens trying to recover from a cancer operation. I was in so much pain that I kept passing out from it. I was rooting for Boston. I said to myself, “If they can make it, I can make it.”

I loved David Ortiz; it was a wonderful free team of heroes in 2004, and Ortiz was my favorite. He still is.
