Punishment in drug lab case should not stop at Dookhan

Annie Dookhan has been sentenced and punished deservedly (“Dookhan sentenced after her guilty plea,” Page A1, Nov. 23). However, the writer of a recent letter to the editor (“Tragic failure of oversight at Westfield State,” Nov. 23), regarding the resignation under fire of Westfield State University’s president, was correct to cite a similar failure of oversight in Dookhan’s case.

Indeed, where were her supervisors and those responsible for checking and approving her work? Why were no red flags raised at the speed with which Dookhan completed tests and submitted reports? These questions have been voiced but not sufficiently.

The shame lies above Dookhan, and those officials should be punished as well.
