letters | long road to the Democratic ballot in Massachusetts

Barriers are even greater for third-party candidates

I am glad that Joan Vennochi brought out the problems connected to people being able to get on the ballot (“An insiders’ game for Democrats”). The problem is deeper and more frustrating than just an issue affecting the state Democratic Party.

I am a proud member of the Green-Rainbow Party. We also have problems not only getting on the ballot but being able to debate others who are running. Credible candidates should be followed by the press, and all should be allowed to have their say without being muscled out by a larger and more moneyed party or candidate, or both.

Why are many third-party candidates shoved aside or not permitted to debate? What are the others afraid of?
