Now the breakdown in state child protective services is joined by additional accusations of ill treatment and neglect of mentally ill patients at Bridgewater State Hospital (“Suit targets isolation at Bridgewater,” Page A1, March 31). Although Governor Patrick may have turned to writing his second book, he remains in office for nine more months. He will be held responsible if the barbarism at Bridgewater is not eliminated and humane treatment restored.

It is appalling to think that the governor, even after the death of Joshua K. Messier four years ago, has still neglected the duty of his office to see that the institutionalized mentally ill receive needed care and attention.
