Cartoon tweaks Obama’s inaction — imagine how it might have depicted Bush

The July 1 editorial cartoon by Jim Morin, depicting President Obama needing staff, advisers, and the formation of a study group to decide on a golf shot, requires a response, considering the ramifications of the difference in decision-making between Obama and his predecessor.

Continuing the golf theme, imagine a foursome of George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and Condoleezza Rice, precipitously driving their shots into a foursome in front of them, despite the intelligence and advice of those in the CIA and State Department, legislators, area experts, and much of the public.

Their irresponsible shots kill three of the golfers ahead, cause severe physical and mental injuries to the fourth that the government will be paying for throughout that golfer’s life, and cause the caddies, who happen to be Muslim, to become terrorists who recruit thousands of others as a response to this recklessness.

Too long for a cartoon caption, clearly, but you need space to cover the Sunni-Shiite enmity that existed before, during, and since the incursion — an incursion that damaged so much.
