The goal is to bring injuries, deaths on our roads to zero

Your coverage of the need for good information about the locations and details of pedestrian injuries from vehicle accidents in Boston was very timely (“How dangerous, no one knows,” Page A1, Aug. 19). Sadly, there was another pedestrian fatality on that same day, on Memorial Drive in Cambridge.

We urge the Commonwealth and all its communities to adopt so-called vision-zero policies to work on getting traffic deaths down to zero, and then to collect and use information to make the operational, enforcement, behavioral, and environmental changes necessary to stop injuries and deaths on our roads.

Safe streets for all modes of travel are critical for Massachusetts' quality of life and economic vitality.
