Israel asked only for sustained quiet

Your editorial“Cease-fire marks start of real work toward peace in Gaza” misstates the goal that Israel so clearly enunciated at the start of Operation Protective Edge: sustainable quiet. That’s all it demanded.

Israel then complied with 11 cease-fire agreements, and Hamas violated every one of them. If Hamas had agreed to the first cease-fire and not violated it, the operation would have ended six days after it began.
