DA’s only misstep: sparing trial that would have thrown light on crisis

Jeff Jacoby’s op-ed “DA overboard on climate change,” about the men who blocked the coal shipment in Somerset, missed the boat in its criticism of Bristol District Attorney C. Samuel Sutter. Jacoby makes only passing reference to where I believe Sutter erred — not in dropping charges against the defendants, but rather in precluding a full-blown trial that would have brought even greater exposure to what they rightfully saw as the moral wrong of perpetuating climate change.

DA or not, every citizen has an intrinsic obligation to understand this crisis and to act accordingly, if only for self-preservation, but also in support of what are national and global interests.

If politics stands in the way, then we, as Sutter did, should take and hold the higher ground.
