What particularly troubles me about this Olympics bid is the undemocratic process. How did a self-appointed group of businessmen and politicians get to represent “Boston” to the US Olympic Committee? What gave them that authority?

Did the Boston City Council or Massachusetts Legislature vote? Was there a referendum and I missed it?

Now the powers that be are looking for our support in what they promise will be a transparent process (“Now, the selling begins,” Page A1, Jan. 10). It is already not transparent, and this is another case of seeking forgiveness, not permission.

What I do know is the group did not speak for me. This is politics as usual — government by the businessmen behind this, for the business community that will profit. Regardless of the promises being made, you can bet your last nickel that this will cost us, as taxpayers and as residents, in many ways.
