We read with interest your June 8 editorial “Games must spur steps to tackle trafficking.” We are not waiting for the Olympics to confront human trafficking in hotels. Under the leadership of Mayor Walsh, Boston-based My Life My Choice and the hotel workers union UNITE HERE LOCAL 26 have initiated a program with union hotel employers to train front-line hotel workers to identify and report human trafficking in a responsible way. As a result, a majority of Boston’s hotels will soon be able to combat human trafficking.
Human trafficking is happening in our city. Most victims are the most vulnerable individuals from our own neighborhoods. We cannot wait one more day to confront it.
We thank the mayor for standing with us in this fight.
