Proposed building would just add needless clutter to Greenway

SOME BAD ideas just won’t die. The Globe is again touting a Boston history museum for a site on the Greenway (”America’s historical hub?”, Editorial, July 5, 2012). This time the rationale is that we are losing some sort of “historical hub” contest with Philadelphia.

The editorial targets “history-minded travelers” who apparently need an “anchor” to identify Boston historical sites, and calls for wealthy Bostonians to follow the contributions of a Philadelphia billionaire.

If admitting that Philadelphia is also a “birthplace of American history” is the price that we Bostonians must pay to prevent an unwanted and unnecessary museum building from cluttering the Greenway, then we should gladly pay the price.
