Even if not a miracle worker, Obama has certainly been hard at work

What a nasty post-election column by Jeff Jacoby (“Obama wins an ugly victory,” Nov. 7). Like a child kicking the furniture because he lost a game, Jacoby trashes everything about President Obama’s first term and his reelection campaign. In fact, the election was close only because the recession was so deep — perhaps made deeper by Republican refusal to support a second stimulus.

Obama didn’t accomplish everything he said he’d do, but he did pass universal health care after decades of failed efforts. Finally, the economy is recovering. The next four years are likely to see a vigorous economic recovery, a substantial cut in the deficit, and immigration reform. Perhaps we can even hope for peace.
